About This Course

A BI Analyst builds standardized dashboards and trusted metrics that scale across teams. Instead of one-off reports, the BI Analyst defines consistent KPI logic, creates data models/semantic layers, and delivers dashboards business users rely on for decisions. Work includes gathering reporting requirements, translating KPI definitions into SQL logic, building curated datasets (marts), and designing dashboards with usability and governance. A key challenge is ensuring “one version of truth” so metrics like revenue, conversion, or active users remain consistent over time. BI Analysts implement data quality checks, manage refresh schedules, and optimize queries for performance. Tools include Power BI/Tableau/Looker, SQL, Excel/Power Query, and in Power BI environments DAX and star-schema modeling. The role collaborates with data engineering and business stakeholders and often becomes the backbone of performance management. It suits analysts who enjoy dashboards, modeling, and metric governance, and can progress into BI lead, analytics engineering, or analytics manager roles.
