About This Course
An AML/KYC Analyst ensures the organization complies with anti-money laundering regulations and onboarding due diligence requirements. Work includes verifying customer identity and address, screening against sanctions/PEP/watchlists, collecting beneficial ownership details for entities, and assigning risk ratings. For higher-risk customers, the analyst performs Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and documents justification. Another major stream is transaction monitoring: investigating alerts triggered by unusual behavior such as structuring, rapid in-out movement of funds, high-risk counterparties, or patterns inconsistent with declared profile. Analysts document findings, close cases with rationale, or escalate suspicious cases for compliance action and potential STR/SAR filing. Audit readiness and documentation discipline are essential, as decisions must be defensible to regulators. In mature organizations, analysts also reduce false positives by analyzing alert drivers and recommending rule/process improvements. The role suits detail-oriented candidates who prefer structured workflows and governance, and can progress to financial crime investigation, compliance management, or broader risk governance roles.
